How to Build a Business on the Back of Franchising

Ridge Sass, Master Franchisee who owns multiple TOP T stores in Limpopo Province is a man on a mission.  We asked him to tell us about his entrepreneurial journey on the back of a successful franchise brand.

“My journey as a TOP T Franchisee started in March 2015 when I was given the opportunity to become the Master Franchisee for the Limpopo province, with the view of owning multiple TOP T franchise, retail outlets. Italtile Ltd, the franchisor of the TOP T brand, was prepared to partly finance the deal, as it involved 5 retail outlets, which were already operational. With the finance part of the deal concluded the focus quickly shifted to opening more stores, in areas where our product offering had to be made more accessible to the market that we serve.”

TOP T is a fast-growing national retailer with 64 stores in nine provinces, situated in rural areas and outlying markets in close proximity to urban townships and easily accessible to customers via public transport. Their focus is on quality home finishing products at the lowest possible prices.

Becoming part of the communities they serve is a big part of Ridge’s secret to success. “From the very start, we made a conscious decision, that we wanted to become part of the communities we serve, by getting involved in education, sport and health. We have over the past 2 years donated clothing, painted preschools and primary schools, sponsored the Limpopo provincial netball team, which directly impacted more than 4 000 children.”

The sales growth successes of the stores in Limpopo province are due to the continuous investment in the development of the team members, which resulted in the current store footprint, of 8 stores in Limpopo and another 3 more opening, before December 2017.

“TOP T has given me the foundation, to live a life of significance and purpose.”
