On 18 July 2018, Madiba’s 100th birthday, at The Nelson Mandela Foundation, in the company of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, HRH Princess Charlene of Monaco, Sir Richard Branson and other business leaders, the founders of the Nikela Charity Funding & Development Trust bore witness to a crowning moment of a 14 year journey – the unveiling of the Rounda Brand.
By sharing the vision of Rounda, the work of ten charities and the close to R100 Million that was previously generated, entered the new phase, where, under the custodianship of the Nikela Trust the brand of Rounda was shared with the Theme “make every day Mandela day with Rounda”
According to organiser Dawie Crous “we are of the opinion that if the entire business sector mobilise behind this concept, we will raise R1 Billion per annum in support of self-help and poverty relief projects. In fact if we get it right in SA we can literally start a worldwide movement towards poverty eradication.”
The Franchise Association of South Africa was amongst the first to give their backing to the charity initiative of adding R1 to help the 12 million South Africans who go to bed hungry every night, where half of the population live below the poverty line and 10% live on less than R16 a day. By adding just R1 to your bill we can make a big difference in their lives. To date a number of franchise brands have taken up the challenge including the major fast food brands and the business unveiling of Rounda is provisionally scheduled for the Heritage Week, the third week in September.
