FASA congratulates one of its dynamic and progressive members – Legends Barbershop – on the opening of the Legends Training Centre in Johannesburg, where aspirant barbers can hone their skills and learn important life skills to succeed. Sheldon Tatchell, founder of the popular barbershop franchise, has taken the craft and the business of cutting hair to the next level.
Legends Barbershop has not only established itself as the leading barbershop in South Africa as rated by the African Hair Awards Council, but has also grown its footprint outside local borders as far afield as Botswana, Lesotho & Namibia. Tatchell started his business cutting hair on the stoep in front of his cousin’s internet cafe in Eldorado Park and saw it as his ticket out of the township and an opportunity of a lifetime. Says Tatchell, “I was fourteen years old when I turned to barbering as a way to escape the reality of poverty that surrounded me.”
Now in an effort to give back and empower the youth, Tatchell has launched the Legends Training Centre
“Our country is currently facing a problem with youth unemployment stats rising at 66% and I felt that, in addition to rolling out my franchise, I needed to give something back. I believe strongly in the premise that if you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.”
- This training centre will be helping in the reduction of unemployment with an estimated 200+ jobs that will be created annually.
