Unfortunately, in the day and age that we live in, we are presented with many threats to both our personal safety and the safety of our possessions. There are plenty of criminals out there that will take any opportunity to make a quick buck and an unguarded property may seem like an easy target. Having trained, uniformed guards patrolling the property is a huge deterrent to criminals as guards make it virtually impossible for burglars and criminals to enter the property. Guards are also able to report on any suspicious activity and call for immediate assistance from the armed response unit.

The customer needs a secure, effective, and reliable security service. A simple enough statement but it does say it all. Delivering or receiving that service is really what separates the successful from the not so successful.

We supply and manage security manpower to the following sections of the industry-:

  • Industrial;
  • Commercial;
  • Residential Estates; and
  • Educational Institutions.

Tactical Developments (Pty) Ltd. TACDEV was a registered security training center. It obtained the contract to train one thousand ANC cadres in crowd control and general security practices, before the 1994 elections.

Before the 1994 elections, my partners and I obtained the contract to train approximately 800 ANC cadres in preparation for the 1994 elections. Cadres arrived at our training venue where we hosted them for two weeks, they lived in and an intense training program was undertaken. The cadres were trained in general security and marshalling techniques.

This program progressed to us selecting the best 200 hundred candidates and putting them through a very powerful close protection course where after they were employed as close protection officers for minister and other VIP’s.

Where necessary, the instructors where then imbedded with a minister at his residences where the officers were given real-world real-time training. I was imbedded with Mr. Lakota at Free State House when he was the Free State premier.

We further assisted ministers in securing their personal residences, I was fortunate to have had some involvement in this regard, most notable at Mr. Ramaphosa’s house when he was staying in Fairlands, Johannesburg.

I wrote a Family Protection Program for ANC families. At that time there was strong feelings between the ANC and other political parties and the ANC leadership felt that the ANC family members may benefit from a practical home-based security program. That program is still available for all. It is online now and have been updated from time to time.

Managing Director for Comitatus Guarding. (Pty) Ltd. The company delivered security services to mostly the banking industry. The company was successfully operated for about ten years when it was sold to third parties.

Those banks included, ABSA, Barclays, City Bank, Nedbank, SBC later called UBS, Fleming Martin amongst others

Due to our involvement with the ANC, we were exposed to the partners, funders and friends of the ANC. These were mostly bankers and we ended up supplying security services to many banks including Barclays Bank, Fleming Martin, City bank, Warburg Dillon Read (later United Bank of Switzerland), ABSA bank where we provided the security at the homes of all the EXCO members. At Nedbank we placed security officers at banks where the officers needed to be armed.

Managing Director for 360º Group of Companies (Pty) Ltd. The company is supplying security specific software programs to the security and property management industry.

We continued with many of the same security practices and services, but we started developing our security and access related software programs. This company is functioning today and is the vehicle from which we developed The Security Franchise.

The Security Franchise. The Franchise is fully registered and ready to start. The registration process with The South African Franchise Association has started and will take some time. PSIRA registration has been obtained and premises have been occupied

What Sets “The Security Franchise” Apart?

  • Operational knowhow. It is said that South Africa has the fifth largest security industry. We also have some of the best trained security managers;
  • Business knowhow. Our system seeks Franchisees from a different investor group as what you would normally find. These types of franchisee have the operational experience but not necessarily the business management skills. Our system elevates the right candidate to the excellence level;
  • Ongoing support. Crucial to the success of the franchise is the ongoing support of systems for the franchisee. Our system supplies that support;
  • It is encumbered on security companies to stay abreast of the rise of technology. Advances in tech allows us to fine tune our services and also make them more cost efficient as time go on;
  • Integrity in professional conduct with the customers;
  • Looking after the safety of the employees whilst they are on the premises under our care; and
  • We strive for service excellence in all that we do.

The Security Franchise is particularly interested in people who poses some or all the following attributes:

  • A person with at least fifteen years’ experience in physical security and with at least ten of those years in a senior supervisory, site management or management experience. The Franchisee will have had at least five years’ experience in either area management or business management experience. A people’s person who can work with people and have a pleasant, positive and a caring nature;
  • He or she must have excellent selling skills; experience in direct selling is preferable but not a must;
  • Communication skills: This is one characteristic that any franchisee must possess. This means they must be able to deal with people in a positive way. A good franchisee is one who enjoys spending time with people. Remember, if one treats their staff and customers with trust and respect, then they will remain loyal to them. Hence, it is must for a franchisee to treat their customers and staff well which will ultimately add to the popularity of a business;
  • Hard working: Running a franchise is not easy; it takes hard work to make it successful. For new franchises to be successful, a franchisee must be unafraid of hard work and happy to put in the hours required to get the job done;
  • Positive attitude: A potential franchisee must have a positive attitude towards the business A franchisee must have a good attitude towards work and show that they can work alongside their employees, whether it is in the office or out in the field. They must even be willing to look for ways to make the brand more popular and suggest frequent changes for the betterment of the business. In another word, a franchisee must be self-motivated to act and follow the successes of others. A self-motivated and organised person who wants to succeed and be prepared to work as part of a team;
  • The term to “be a good leader, you also must be a good follower” is indeed true in franchising. Customers preferring franchised businesses are generally there because they know what to expect. A franchise system then rests upon the consistency of the products or services it offers. Deviate from this and you have taken out the foundation of this business system. Therefore, franchisors look for people who can lead and at the same time follow the business system in place.
  • As there is always the chance of a franchise failing, we are looking for people who cannot just follow the system but can get going when the going gets tough. Of course, getting a franchise also has its risks as with other business systems. What The Security Franchise likes people who can handle the risk and work hard to make their franchise a success.
  • Financially and ethically sound person who treats customers, suppliers and the support office with integrity; and
  • Have approximately 50 percent of total set-up costs available in cash.
  • Working capital which will include 3 months personal living expenses and 3 months business expenses while the Franchise outlet is being established.
  • Once a Franchisee meets the above requirements, the following is the most important factor in Franchisee selection and is simply not negotiable under any circumstances: Each is owner run and managed and therefore we will not sell a franchise to a Franchisee who is going to have someone manage and run the business on their behalf.

The Franchisor undertakes to provide the Franchisee with the initial hands-on training of four weeks, to enable the Franchisee to meet any requirements set by this Agreement, Operations Manual or any related documentation. Further 11 Months of training to complete the one year of full onboarding will be offered. The Franchisee will be responsible for payment of any travel, accommodation, or other expenses to attend the training.
