A special Franchising Feature in the Sunday Times/Business Day/Financial Mail will put the spotlight on this phenomenal business format with in-depth articles on how franchising is performing despite local and international challenges.
Under the auspices of the Franchise Association of South Africa that, for the past 46 years has steered the sector, setting global ethical standards and conducting surveys to monitor its growth. The last survey post-Covid and sponsored by Absa showed the sector contributes 15% to GDP through its over 700 franchise systems and over 60 000 franchise outlets employing around half a million people.
Successful brands will be celebrating World Franchise Day by showcasing their success stories in this annual Franchising Feature that will be distributed as a magazine to Sunday Times subscribers and available online on the Sunday Times, Business Day and Financial Day platforms.

FASA a long-standing member of the World Franchise Council
The World Franchise Council (WFC) is a non-political association of more than 40 national franchise associations from around the world. Formed in 1994, it aims to promote the growth of franchising internationally, and facilitate best practice in franchise association management among its members. It also aims to foster and encourage the development of franchise associations in nations where such an association does not currently exist.
The magnitude and scope of franchising across the globe makes it one of the most successful business formats that bring together entrepreneurs who establish strong brands and then afford individuals the opportunity to become successful small businesses in their own right.
The franchise industry is a global phenomenon, contributing significantly to economic growth and employment. Approximately 2 million franchised businesses globally employ over 19 million people and contribute 2.7% to the GDP of the World Franchise Council’s member countries. The franchise market is forecast to grow significantly, with a projected increase of USD 2.24 billion at a CAGR of 10.8% between 2024 and 2029.
Leading the field as the biggest franchise market globally is the USA where a report from the International Franchise Association, produced in partnership with Frandata, projects an economic output from franchised companies in the United States to exceed $936.4 billion in 2025 generated from is 830 876 franchise establishments that create 8.8 million direct jobs.
Franchise Associations around the world have welcomed the start of what will become an annual event on the second Wednesday in June.
